(Washington) Foreigners wishing to enter the United States by land and sea must be vaccinated starting Saturday, regardless of the reason for their trip, the United States Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday.

The United States, which had closed its borders to much of the world from the start of the pandemic, reopened them in November to travelers from around the world provided they were vaccinated.
But foreigners arriving by land borders or by ferry from Mexico or Canada were exempt if they had “essential reasons” to travel, in particular professional.
This will therefore no longer be the case from Saturday, which should mainly affect carriers and cross-border workers.
The department, which justifies this measure by “the constant progression of COVID-19 contaminations” in the country, warns against the extended delays to cross the border.
This could create new logistical problems in an already strained transport sector.
