Entrance examination to the profession | Support for the Order of Nurses of Quebec

Following the exit, last week, of the president of the Order of Nurses of Quebec (OIIQ), with regard to the recommendations set out in the progress report of the Commissioner for admission to professions, the deans and the deans and directors of the nine universities offering nursing education programs in Quebec would like to express their support for the Order’s decision regarding the entrance exam to the profession.

It seems to us that this approach, which maintains the March 2023 exam, while relaxing the application of certain rules relating to it, ensures the protection of the public. Given that the progress report of the Commissioner for Admission to Professions has just been tabled, we will await the follow-up as soon as possible.

We take this opportunity to congratulate the university graduates who passed the exam. We also thank all the nursing teaching and support staff who have redoubled their efforts to ensure that students develop the skills necessary to offer complex and safe care despite the difficult context and conditions related to the pandemic. . For those who have not succeeded, keep the faith! We are also here to support you.

The population and the profession need adequately trained nurse clinicians to meet the increasingly complex care needs of the population. Meeting these needs is the ultimate goal of nursing education offered in our respective institutions.

Although the nursing profession is in great questioning, this is not the time for division! We must all work together to find constructive solutions to the challenges facing our health care system and even our society. We will continue to focus on quality, high-level education to prepare our future nurses to meet these challenges.
