This is a new prestigious signing for the Top 14. Racing 92 formalized, Monday January 22, the arrival in its ranks of English rugby superstar Owen Farrell. The English number 10, who French fans love to hate, has signed up for two seasons with the Hauts-de-Seine club, which he will join on July 1, 2024.

At 32, Owen Farrell offers himself a major challenge. He leaves his native country for the first time, after 16 years spent in the jersey of Saracens, his training club, to whom he remained loyal even after its administrative relegation at the end of the 2019-2020 season. With the Sarries, he has won six English league titles, the last one just a few months ago, in the spring of 2023. He has also lifted three Champions Cups (2016, 2017, 2019), including one against his new club ( that of 2016).

Reunion with Lancaster

In Île-de-France, he will reunite with Stuart Lancaster, who arrived at the helm of Racing 92 this summer and who launched him for the first time in the selection at the start of 2012. An XV de la Rose with whom he played 112 matches, won three Six Nations Tournaments (2016, 2017, 2020), played in a World Cup final (2019), and gave the French internationals a lot of trouble. At the end of the last World Cup in France, concluded with a 3rd place for the English, he announced that he was taking a “break” from the selection to concentrate on his mental well-being and his family.

Racing 92, which has already managed to secure the services of Siya Kolisi and Henry Arundell, continues its five-star recruitment. The arrival of Owen Farrell joins a line of high-level foreign fly-halfs who have worn the sky and white jersey (Johnny Sexton, Dan Carter, Finn Russell, etc.). Enough to strengthen the team which is already at the top of the Top 14.
