To hope to qualify for a fourth time in the semi-finals of a Euro, the English will have to raise their level of play. Having emerged first from Group C with five points, Gareth Southgate’s men came close to elimination in the round of 16. Led from the 25th minute by Slovakia, the Three Lions equalized through Jude Bellingham in the final moments, before winning (2-1) in extra time. Unconvincing in their play since the start of the competition, the English selection mainly relied on their individual talents to reach the quarter-finals.

Facing them, a much more inspired Swiss team, victorious without a hitch over Italy, the reigning European champion, in the round of 16. In the group stage, Murat Yakin’s men had notably held Germany to a draw on their home turf (1-1). In the event of a victory against England, Switzerland would reach the semi-finals of the Euro for the first time in its history.

The match to follow: Netherlands – Türkiye at 9 p.m.

Playing in the highly contested Group D of this Euro, the Netherlands had to fight hard to reach the final stages. Winners over Poland for their entry into the competition, the Dutch were neutralized by Les Bleus (0-0), before being defeated by Austria in a crazy match (2-3). Qualified as the best third-placed team, they then played in the round of 16 against Romania (3-0).

Turkey, for its part, had a more relaxed run in the group stage. Winners over Georgia (3-1) and the Czech Republic (2-1), the Turks finished in second place in Group F. By dominating Austria (2-1) in the round of 16, Vincenzo Montella’s players qualified their country for the quarter-finals of a Euro for the third time.
