It’s a blow for England. Its captain and captain, Owen Farrell, is out of the entire Six Nations Tournament. The Rose XV coach Eddie Jones announced it on Wednesday January 26 at a press conference. “Owen is going to have surgery so he will miss the whole tournament”, he soberly revealed.

“It’s a big blow for him, a blow for us, but we also see it as an opportunity for other players to take the lead.”

“In today’s rugby, it’s not common to be able to field your best team on the pitch. We’re used to it”, added the coach of the England team, winner of the Tournament in 2020. Farrell was due to regain his place as captain against Scotland on February 5. He has not played since his injury at Twickenham against Australia in November.

The 30-year-old injured his ankle again in training with his club Saracens. His sidekick and childhood friend George Ford was brought in to replace him.

This long-term package is in addition to those, shorter, of the second line Courtney Lawes (concussion protocol), who claimed to take back the armband, and the pillar with 74 selections, Joe Marler (Covid-19).
