Off the coast of Brittany, France 3 has followed preserved “little paradises” which have an ambitious objective: no longer depend on fuel-fired power stations.
Energy continues to fuel the debate on several facts. What will be the energy of tomorrow in particular? Off the coast of Brittany, more precisely on the Île de Molène (Finistère), the city has one goal: no longer depend on fuel-fired power stations and produce green energy, that is to say energy that preserves the environment. The Island of Molène has therefore decided to bet on solar panels in order to achieve autonomy by 2030. On There are no cars on this island to get around, but pollution is still very present.
Despite the absence of a car, this island remains polluted because of the fuel-fired power stations where electricity is produced. Large fuel tanks which supply three generators which operate day and night. “The three groups consume an average of 1000 liters of fuel per day so it is far from being carbon neutral”, laments Didier Delhalle, mayor without the label of Molène (Finistère). Electricity production in the city emits thirteen times more carbon dioxide than on the continent as a whole. An aberration which pushes the inhabitants to chase waste. “We are very careful with our electricity, with water, we pay attention to everything here”, specifies a resident. In Molène, all the people contribute to reduce their consumption to preserve the environment.
