Energy: suppliers warn of the urgency to reduce consumption

The leaders of the groups TotalEnergiesEDF and Engie call on the French to reduce their energy consumption in an alarmist column published in The Sunday newspaper of June 26. “The effort must be immediate, collective and massive. Every gesture counts”declare the signatories. This is a necessity according to them to avoid a shortage and a surge in energy prices next winter.

On a daily basis, small gestures can reduce the bill. For example, remember to defrost the freezer, cover the pans or use the program “eco” dishwasher, in order to save 25 to 45%. In the living room, you can unplug electrical appliances to save 10%, or even prefer the fan to the air conditioner.

According to an environmental association, theEfforts should not only weigh on the population. “Companies, communities and the State also have many means to improve the situation, in particular by implementing public policies. We need public transport…”, says Arnaud Schwartz, president of France Nature Environnement.
