Energy Defense Council: a mode of operation that arouses the ire of the opposition

On the morning of Friday September 2, Emmanuel Macron convened a Defense Council devoted to the energy crisis. Around the table alongside the Presidentwithout any means of communication with the outside world, only a few senior ministers were present. A restricted format that made the opposition jump, who accused the head of state of acting alone.

“It’s unbearable to have a government and a President of the Republic who constantly governs through a Defense Council, which is therefore covered by defense secrecy, and which allows each and everyone who takes the decisions to avoid ending up one day before the High Court of Justice”believes Mathilde panotpresident of the group La France insoumise at the National Assembly. Used during the health crisis and, more recently, for the war in Ukraine, the Defense Council is, for the opposition, an anti-democratic tool and a means of circumventing Parliament.
