The energy crisis is disrupting the lives of many French people. In the Loiret, a baker, strangled by electricity bills, has no choice but to close shop after 15 years in the business.

To Grenville-en-Beauce (Loiret)Kevin Robin makes its last batch. At 34, this baker has decided to close down due to rising electricity bills. The baker explains that his electricity rates have increased by 305%. “On a bill of 1,400 [euros]we will go to 3,000, 4,000”explains Kevin Robin. With his wife, Kevin Robin opened this business 15 years ago, in this small village of 700 inhabitants.

The villagers are appalled. “Where are we going to get the bread? There’s no more bread anywhere around”asks a resident. Indeed, in the surrounding area, other bakers are affected by the energy crisis. Soline Robina baker, is moved by the fact that the elderly will no longer be able to get bread. Despite the increases, some bakers have chosen to continue and hold on, but until when ?
