The magistrates of the Court of Justice of the Republic (CJR) closed, Friday, April 15, their judicial investigation targeting the former Minister of the Budget, Eric Woerth, announced the general prosecutor’s office at the Court of Cassation. The deputy of Oise is suspected of having granted a disputed tax boost to Bernard Tapie in 2008 after the controversial arbitration of his conflict with Crédit Lyonnais.
The public prosecutor now has three months to submit its submissions, and the defense an additional month to make observations, before a final decision by the CJR’s investigation committee on whether or not to refer Eric Woerth to the training of judgment of the same CJR.
The chairman of the Finance Committee at the National Assembly (former LR passed in the camp of Emmanuel Macron) has been indicted since July 2021 in this file for “misappropriation”, in this case the granting of an advantage undue tax. The CJR had opened a judicial investigation in 2019. Guest of the “4 truths” on France 2 the day after his indictment, July 6, 2021, the main interested party had assured that“there was no gift to Bernard Tapie”.
