Sprinter Christophe Lemaitre, plagued by injuries for several years, decided to already end its 2022 season and to separate from his trainer Thierry Tribondeau, he announced on Wednesday. “I’m having a white season. My physical condition does not allow me to play in competitions, the injuries are repeated, I’m not in good shape. I prefer to -retype- this summer to attack in better conditions the preparation of the next year”he told AFP.
Adductor injury
The 32-year-old athlete did not complete a single race in the spring after an already inconclusive winter indoors, and was therefore not not qualified for the French Championships, scheduled from Friday to Sunday in Caen (Calvados). Latest injury to date: a strained right adductor in Geneva on June 11.
The Savoyard, who intends to continue at least until the Paris Olympics in 2024, has decided to separate from his longtime trainer in Aix-les-Bains Thierry Tribondeau.“This injury was the trigger. I’m in a spiral of bad seasons. Despite Thierry’s efforts, we haven’t managed to get out of it. His vision of things may no longer correspond to my current needs and problems” , Lemaitre added.
Training elsewhere than in Savoie?
The young dad will explore several avenues to find out where he will train next season, perhaps by being based elsewhere than in Savoie for the first time in his career. In search of his past sensations, Christophe Lemaitre has not had a season of international level since 2018. His last medal in a major championship, theOlympic bronze in the 200m in 2016 in Riohad finished building the finest record in French men’s sprinting.
