End of price freeze in grocery stores tomorrow

The price freeze period in large grocery stores will end on Thursday. Quebecers will have to expect an increase in the amount on their grocery bills, while certain products will be sold more expensively.

This price freeze policy has been in effect since 1er last November in major grocery stores in Quebec, until 1er FEBRUARY.

Grocery stores have been taking part in this movement for several years during the holiday season. “Due to the traffic, this period is not conducive to price increases or negotiations,” insists the president of the Association of Food Retailers of Quebec, Pierre-Alexandre Blouin, in an interview with Mario Dumont.

Metro boss Éric La Flèche confirmed the planned increase in food prices during Metro’s annual meeting of shareholders, held Tuesday. However, he suggests that this increase should be less significant, unlike the last two years.

Faced with changes in consumer behavior, the president of the Association of Food Retailers of Quebec assures that food chains will try to keep their prices as low as possible. “We cannot live in our little glass bubble and say that our market will not be affected. Consumers are price sensitive, it’s one of the most important factors,” he notes.

However, some products will be more “problematic” and will undergo price increases.
