A marriage proposal turned sour during the New York Islanders’ home opener against the Florida Panthers on Thursday.
In front of the approximately 17,000 spectators present at the UBS arena, a shirtless man saw fit to propose to his girlfriend, reports the New York Post.
A whole awkwardness then ensued when the woman rejected the request.
Several viewers and supporters on social media thought the footage was “arranged with the views guy.”
However, a fan present at the game wanted to tell his version of the events: “I was there and it was certainly not arranged”, he said on Twitter.
Met by the New York daily, David Marcus recounts the first moments that led to the rejected request.
“The guy took off his sweater. He said [à sa copine]: “please say yes, say yes, say yes”. She was in shock. All nearby supporters were filming the scene. When people saw her coming up the stairs, everyone screamed,” he explained.
The young supporter heard the rather disappointed man’s words after his failed marriage proposal.
“Wow! I’m sitting here in front of 20,000 shirtless people. It’s embarrassing,” he said.
David Marcus, who was accompanied by his father, points out that the supporter rejected by the woman left the stands a few moments later.
“He held the ring in his hands. He was crying and he was ashamed. Afterwards, he left the stands with the woman’s wallet, ”he testifies.
