BERLIN | A car rammed passers-by in central Berlin on Wednesday morning, killing one person and injuring eight others, firefighters told AFP.
The vehicle crashed into a window in this shopping district located near the Zoo station and its driver was arrested, said a police spokeswoman who could not specify whether it was intentional act or loss of control of the vehicle.
According to the daily Picturethe victim is a man and a photo published by the popular newspaper showed rescuers and police busy around a stretcher.
The facts took place near the Memorial Church, a landmark monument in the western part of the German capital, located on one of Berlin’s busiest commercial arteries, the Kurfürstendamm.
Many police were deployed to the scene, located just next to the square where on December 19, 2016, an Islamist ram truck attack was carried out on a Christmas market, killing 12 people.
According to the local newspaper BZthe car is a silver colored Renault vehicle.
A photo circulating on Twitter showed a small vehicle, passenger door open, embedded in the window of a large perfumery chain.
