While inflation is expected to exceed 3%, employees are doing their best to obtain wage increases. For now, the first negotiations would bring an average increase of 2.5%, lower than inflation. If they were willing to make an effort in times of Covid, the workers are fed up.

According to a study, wages will increase during the year 2022 by 2.2%, less than inflation, recorded on Monday February 14 at 2.9%. The median increase varies according to the sectors: 2.5% in industry, 2.2% in transport, and 2% in banks. Companies would sometimes be cautious. “There is bound to be an area of uncertainty that is being created, since costs are exploding, there are sometimes shortages of products to produce…”analyzes Franck Cheron, Human Capital Consulting Partner at Deloitte.

Despite the context, some employees have chosen to go on strike. In the Meuse, workers at the Bonduelle factory are demanding a 4% increase. The company is profitable, but would only offer a 3% increase, according to the unions. “We had zero last year, we accepted zero because it was the Covid, (…) This year, we are entitled to 4%”, says Sylvie Defilippi, an employee at Bonduelle. Claims could multiply, since inflation is expected to increase further, according to INSEE.
