There will be disruptions in several supermarkets in Ardèche this Saturday, December 18. Following a national call, employees are on strike to demand better working conditions and higher wages. An action that takes place the last weekend before Christmas, a busy period, to reach as many people as possible.
This morning, around fifty store employees Auchan de Guilherand-Granges were mobilized, according to the organizers.
A mobilization also took place at Carrefour Market in Davézieux. This afternoon, it’s the store’s turn Davézieux action to mobilize.
The stores are running in understaffed, according to the unions, a very big pressure is put on the employees who remain: “We are more and more turned towards a policy of fear, with changes in planning which put people in difficulty, in particular with regard to the grades of children. And then, in the contracts there is always a transfer clause within 50 km: we have mothers who are isolated, who cannot afford to go to work 50 km from their home. This clause is a threat to employees when they do not want to comply with last minute changes, and there is often“, explains Mélanie Basty, employee at Action and member of the CGT.
Action employees, paid at the minimum wage, also ask for a salary increase. This is also the case for those of Carrefour, who want 300 euros more on their payslips. Grégory Chanrond Palisse, CGT employee representative at Carrefour de Davézieux, is also opposed to a lease-management project: “Our employer would be a person and no longer Carrefour, and that would make us lose bonuses, we would have a loss of purchasing power among employees. During the pandemic, Carrefour made the best figures for more than 20 years to better repay money to shareholders, not employees. ”
The unions are already warning that new actions will be taken if they are not heard.
