Emotion at the inauguration of the “Jean-Pierre Pernaut hall” in Abbeville

Abbeville pays tribute to Jean-Pierre Pernaut. The market hall now bears the name of Jean-Pierre Pernaut, since this Saturday, September 24, during the inauguration by the town hall.

The famous Picard journalist died on March 2. In his 1 p.m. newspaper on TF1, Jean-Pierre Pernaut regularly honored Picardy where he was from. His two children, Julia and Olivier, were present for this emotional moment. Many anonymous people came in large numbers to attend this baptism, all very grateful to the journalist. “I am happy that the municipality offers us this”exclaims Colette, moved to tears. “He was from Amiens, me too. He was such an endearing man, I will never forget him”she assures, tremolos in her voice.

This emotion is shared by the journalist’s childrenOlivier and Julia. “It really makes us very happy. That’s why we’re here today. It’s a bit moving all the same to see dad’s name here. It’s very nice”assures Olivier.

In the hall, traders are also affected. “His soul, it is now in the market and it does something to the heart”launches Jasmine, oyster seller. “It’s good for the hall. It’s going to move for the trade. Jean-Pierre Pernaut, everyone knows him”adds Hervé, fishmonger.

Choosing to attribute the name of the journalist to the market hall is not trivial, explains Pascal Demarthe, the mayor of Abbeville. “It’s really what represents the most what he loved to do, namely to highlight the France of the territories, gastronomy. We are all moved because the name of Jean-Pierre Pernaut will remain engraved forever in the heart. of our city.”

In Amiens, where the journalist was born, the reflection is still in progress to attribute the name of Jean-Pierre Pernaut to a street or a building in the city.
