(Toronto) Norm Macdonald’s latest one-man show earned the late Canadian-born comedian his first-ever American television Emmy nominations.

The tongue-in-cheek comedian, born in Quebec in 1959, died last September of cancer in Los Angeles. He is a finalist for his show Norm Macdonald: Nothing Specialwhich aired on Netflix, without notice, on the very last day of the Emmy eligibility period.
Macdonald is a finalist for directing and writing this “variety special”, while the show itself is a finalist in its category.
Fellow Canadian-born Hamilton-born Martin Short is a finalist for his portrayal in the comedy series Only Murders in the Building, where he will face in the same category his co-star Steve Martin. In addition, actress Sandra Oh, originally from Nepean, Ontario, is up for her portrayal in the drama series Killing Eve – his fourth Emmy nomination for this role.
The Montreal star of the show Queer-EyeAntoni Porowski, shares a nomination with the other members of the Makeover Fab Five for hosting a reality TV show or a competition.
Lorne Michaels, who grew up in Toronto, won two nominations – one for his lyrics to Saturday Night Live and another for that show’s behind-the-scenes web series.
The Emmy awards will be presented on December 12, during a gala broadcast on NBC and CTV. The identity of the host of the evening has not yet been announced.
