Emmanuelle Seigner “clumsy” to defend her husband Roman Polanski: she explains her shocking remarks

On the occasion of the forthcoming release of his autobiography, A burnt life (Observatory editions), Emmanuelle Seigner is touring the media. His passage in front of the cameras of seven to eight on TF1 on October 16 had also particularly caught the attention. And for good reason, the actress spoke there on sexual assault charges against her husband Roman Polanski since many decades. The father of his two children is even still the subject of an arrest warrant by the American justice which is prosecuting him for the rape of Samantha Geimer, aged 13 at the time.

During her portrait, Emmanuelle Seigner did not hesitate to defend the Franco-Polish multi-Caesarized director, going so far as to pronounce a sentence which earned her many criticisms. “When I met my husband, all the women wanted to sleep with him. All the young girls wanted to sleep with him […]he was hugely attractive, and I don’t think he needed to rape anyone“, she had declared to Audrey Crespo-Mara.

Under fire from critics, Mathilde Seigner’s sister decided to make her mea culpa on the set of What an era! Saturday, October 22 against Léa Salamé who told her that her words had “surprised not to say shocked“.”It was a clumsy sentence, I expressed myself badly, I apologize“, then reacted Emmanuelle Seigner. And to clarify: “What I meant was that when I met him, in 1985, he was extremely courted by many women, many young girlsand for me, it was not always fun. He didn’t necessarily give me reason to be jealous, but it wasn’t always pleasant. That’s what I meant, actually. I misspoke“.

But for host Léa Salamé, her guest’s line of defense is irrelevant. “We’re not talking about a seducer, but we’re talking about accusations of rape and sexual assaultand therefore, to say : ‘my husband, all the women wanted to sleep with him, that’s why he’s not a rapist’, we know very well that this is not an argument“, she pointed out to him before concluding with: “It is not possible“.

Roman Polanski remains presumed innocent of the charges against him until the final judgment of these cases.

On the audience side, Puremedia reports that the show confirmed its good debut by gathering 1.08 million viewers, or 15% market share.
