Emmanuel Macron’s comments on sending ground troops to Ukraine are “a form of excess”linked to “duel that he wants to establish with the National Rally” in the European elections next June, according to the boss of the Republicans, Eric Ciotti, invited Tuesday March 5 on franceinfo.

On February 26, during an international summit on Ukraine, organized in Paris, the President declared that sending Western troops to Ukraine could not “be excluded” in the future, even if there were no “consensus” among Ukraine’s allies. Comments which provoked the ire of several European leaders, who dissociated themselves from Emmanuel Macron: Spain, Italy, and even Germany declared themselves firmly opposed to such a proposal.

“We can clearly see the little scenario that is taking shape”

For Eric Ciotti, this release is not only “an untimely exit” who has “isolated France” And “which was not followed by any of our partners”but it is even a “form of excess”. He sees, behind Emmanuel Macron’s words, a subtext linked to French internal politics. “We can clearly see the little scenario that is taking shape: the President of the Republic is the warlord in a duel that he is setting up against the National Rally” in the European elections.

This statement is therefore not “not a communication error, not a slip-up, it was premeditated” and these words are “irresponsible”And “I’ll tell him again on Thursday”, says the boss of LR. A meeting is, in fact, planned by Emmanuel Macron, with the heads of each political party, at the Élysée on Thursday March 7 at 10:30 a.m., to discuss “the situation in Ukraine” and the aid provided to kyiv.

For the deputy for Alpes-Maritimes, it is necessary “that European countries can support Ukraine in its effort for independence, against Russian aggression”. A goal that must go through “two pillars” : “the military reindustrialization of Europe” and the provision of“European weapons”.
