Emmanuel Macron proposed, during an interview, measures for single-parent families. More than 1.5 million families are affected in France.
Will it be obligatory to visit your child until adulthood in the event of separation? Emmanuel Macron opens the debate and the reactions of the French are mixed. France has more than 1.5 million single-parent families and in 85% of cases the children are the responsibility of the women. Forcing fathers to be more present in order to exercise their responsibilities, such as attending parent-teacher meetings, could be a good idea according to certain associations.
Finances are the main source of conflicts
However, this should not be done under any conditions. “We need support, perhaps more support for parenting (…) see how it is also organized, in a more equitable way, for finances”, explains Véronique Obé, union federation of single-parent families. Finances remain the main cause of conflict between separated parents. In France, 30% to 40% of alimony is unpaid.
