A few days after American President Joe Biden or Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, French President Emmanuel Macron will visit Israel on Tuesday October 24, the Elysée announced on Sunday October 22 in the evening. The only French political leaders to have gone there so far were Catherine Colonna, Minister of Foreign Affairs, and Yaël Braun-Pivet, President of the National Assembly, along with several deputies. The French president will meet Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

The visit of the French head of state comes more than two weeks after the deadly attacks by Palestinian Hamas on Israeli territory, which left more than 1,400 dead, including 30 French nationals. In addition, seven French people are still missing: a young woman has hostage status, and “for the other six there is a presumption of hostage-taking but without certainty”, declared the president at the end of the week.
