As Emmanuel Macron prepares for two crucial interviews, the Quai d’Orsay has asked French nationals to leave Ukraine on Saturday February 19. Journalist Jean-Baptiste Marteau sheds light from the Elysée Palace in Paris.
France clings to a diplomatic path in the conflict between Ukraine and Russia. “In less than half an hour, Emmanuel Macron will speak on the phone with his Ukrainian counterpart, Volodymyr Zelensky, before another very important call, [dimanche] at 11 a.m., with Vladimir Putin”reports Jean-Baptiste Marteau, live from the Élysée Palace (Paris), Saturday, February 19.
If France wishes at all costs to avoid a military conflict, “on the side of the Quai d’Orsay we also emphasize that the situation has considerably hardened in recent hours”, continues the journalist. The Quai d’Orsay thus recommends that French nationals leave Ukraine, “unless compelling reasons”. “France will try everything until the last moment, but at the Élysée we also recognize that only one person has the cards in hand and can still avoid this war, and that person is Vladimir Poutine”concludes Jean-Baptiste Marteau.
