Emmanuel Macron will make an express visit to the Agricultural Show on Saturday

It was to be one of his first campaign moments as a presidential candidate. But war in Ukraine obliges, Emmanuel Macron will be satisfied with a much shorter stint than usual at the Agricultural Show, which he will inaugurate on Saturday February 25 before letting his Prime Minister Jean Castex stroll through the middle of the stands.

According to the presidency, the Head of State will arrive early at the Porte de Versailles for an exchange with agricultural organizations and “representatives of interprofessional sectors”followed by “passing in front of the muse cow” and the inauguration of the show itself. “In the current context, the President of the Republic nevertheless wanted to be alongside farmers and respect this Republican tradition by opening the agricultural fair”underlined the Elysée.

From a government source to AFP, Emmanuel Macron, who had spent twelve hours at the show in 2020 (last year’s edition was canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic), should arrive around 7 a.m. before slip away quickly. “The president will be gone at midday”, explains the Elysée to franceinfo. This year it will be up to Prime Minister Jean Castex to make “walking around and visiting the stands”according to the Elysee.

An unmissable event in a presidential campaign, the Agricultural Show was envisaged, according to sources within the majority, as one of the possible launch pads for the candidacy of Emmanuel Macron, who has still not not officially announced his intention to run for a new term at the Elysée.
