Emmanuel Macron, who has not yet formalized his presidential candidacy, will hold his first campaign meeting on Saturday March 5 in Marseille, franceinfo has learned from concordant sources. Contacts have been made for him to go to Parc Chanot, an exhibition center in the 8th arrondissement of the city, but the Dôme, a performance hall, is also planned.
Chanot Park has already hosted a first meeting in this presidential campaign. The candidate of the French Communist Party (PCF), Fabien Roussel, gathered between 3,500 and 4,000 people there on February 6. As for the Dôme, it was the scene of Nicolas Sarkozy’s first meeting during the 2012 presidential election, which saw the election of François Hollande to the detriment of the outgoing president.
According to information from franceinfo, the President of the Republic will not declare himself a candidate for re-election before the week of February 28. This is the last week possible to get started, because the candidates have until Friday March 4 to submit their 500 sponsorships of elected officials to the Constitutional Council.
