Emmanuel Macron will chair a national tribute to Gisèle Halimi on March 8, at the Paris courthouse, learned this Thursday franceinfo from the Elysée, confirming information from L’Obs.
The president will honor the memory of the famous lawyer, who died more than two years ago, a feminist activist engaged in the fight for the legalization of abortion.
This national tribute will take place on International Women’s Day. Several voices, in particular feminist associations, are campaigning for the former lawyer, who died on July 28, 2020, to enter the Pantheon. An online petition on change.org in favor of its pantheonization exceeds 35,000 signatures this Thursday.

Gisèle Halimi had defended in 1972, during the famous Bobigny trial, a 16-year-old young woman who chose to have an abortion. She was also at the origin of the manifesto “of the 343 sluts” published in April 1971 in the Nouvel Observateur calling for the legalization of abortion.
