President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Roubaix (North) on Thursday to pay tribute to the three young police officers killed in a collision on Sunday with a vehicle whose driver was heavily alcoholic and drugged, the Elysée announced on Wednesday May 24. Emmanuel Macron, who was initially expected in the Var on Thursday, will meet the families and colleagues of the three victims for a tribute at the national police school in Roubaix.

According to the first elements of the investigation, the police, two 25-year-old men and a 24-year-old woman were traveling with a flashing light on the RD 700, near Villeneuve-d’Ascq, when they were hit in a frontal impact. by a vehicle traveling in the wrong direction. Its 24-year-old driver also died instantly. Two people were seriously injured, including a 16-year-old girl whom the three police officers were transporting as part of an open investigation for an assault during the night.

“This accident took place during a rescue intervention for victims, which illustrates the heart of the mission incumbent on them. An everyday mission where the police intervene to protect the French”, explained the presidency in a press release. An investigation has been opened for homicides and involuntary injuries.
