The African assessment of Emmanuel Macron’s first term will have been marked in particular by the withdrawal demanded by Bamako of French soldiers engaged in the fight against terrorism in Mali. In his program, candidate Macron noted that “France shares with its European partners a great ambition for its relations with Africa”. Furthermore, he underlined that the Africa-Europe summit of February 2022, which was held under the French presidency, “laid out a long-term roadmap for a shared future”. The still sensitive question of Franco-African relations seems destined to be dealt with in the years to come in a more European context.
