Emmanuel Macron wants to present an agenda to ease health restrictions. According to information from franceinfo on Wednesday January 19, the Head of State wants to be able to outline prospects for the French people but without going too fast, while next weekend will mark the end of three weeks of the introduction of measures to curb the Covid-19. On December 27, Prime Minister Jean Castex announced in particular the return of gauges in performance halls, stadiums, or the ban on consuming standing in cafes and restaurants.

The situation is still too fragile for announcements of easing. But Emmanuel Macron wants to establish an agenda, outline prospects. The President of the Republic wants to indicate dates for a possible relaxation of the gauges, and telework. Elisabeth Borne, the Minister of Labor, announced on Wednesday that it was too early to consider lifting the obligation to telework at least three days a week. The government plans to extend this obligation “for two more weeks”. The Head of State also wishes to point out a horizon, in particular for the discotheques which are again closed.

According to a government source, “France is less restrictive than many of its neighbours. It must be possible to say that on condition of remaining patient and vigilant for another week or two, it will be possible to lift certain measures”. An adviser summarizes the objective of the Head of State: to enter the campaign in the most positive climate possible.

If the number of contaminations remains spectacular, the situation in intensive care is under control, but the hospital remains under tension. The Elysee also considers deprogramming to be a real problem. It is therefore necessary to avoid “back and forth between restrictions and reductions”, specifies the first circle of the Head of State.

A new health defense council will be held this Thursday morning.
