Emmanuel Macron revives the idea of a debate against Marine Le Pen. “I am at his disposal”said Saturday May 25 at Parisian-Today in France the President of the Republic, as the European elections approach on June 9, for which his camp is in difficulty, largely left behind by the National Rally. Marine Le Pen calls on Emmanuel Macron to risk his resignation or dissolution in the event of defeat in the vote.

In Brest, these exchanges greatly annoy the socialists who attended Raphaël Glucksmann’s meeting on Saturday.

The angriest of all is the candidate himself, furious when he learns of this proposal from Emmanuel Macron to Marine Le Pen. “We are run right now by people who are playing with matches at a gas station,” he says.

At the end of his meeting, which brought together nearly 900 people in Brest, Raphaël Glucksmann crushed what he described as a crude maneuver. “The strategists at the Élysée have only one plan: the staging of this permanent face-to-face with the extreme right. The French are not fooled. They no longer want this face-to-face -deadly face for French democracy.”

In the packed room of the socialist gathering, Arthur assures that Emmanuel Macron’s strategy no longer fools anyone. “The strategy of the permanent barrier exploited since 2017 is no longer useful. They are duos, they are no longer duels at all”, he believes. For the activist, it is clear that Emmanuel Macron is in fact trying to push Raphaël Glucksmann back and not to fight the far right. “It’s to try to make us invisible, it’s to ensure that the right and the extreme right are ultimately the only two camps that are visible, present in all the media.”

Right next door, Serge is of the same opinion and for him, if the Macronists want to make the socialist candidate invisible, it is because he scares them. “It’s obvious. They are trying to marginalize Glucksmann who, I am convinced, will come before the list supported by Macron in the European elections.” Serge denounces a dangerous strategy which further trivializes the National Rally. “It’s to legitimize them more, it’s to put them at the heart of the system, of listening, of attention,” he assures.

And it is not only the socialists who are enraged by this strategy of the head of state. “Since 2022, there have been three blocs in this country, he would like to forget it”, castigates the rebellious Jean-Luc Mélenchon. François-Xavier Bellamy, Les Républicains candidate, who has already protested against the debate between Gabriel Attal and Jordan Bardella, speaks of “democratic deception”. For the Les Républicains candidate, Marine Le Pen is “the best life insurance” by Emmanuel Macron.
