The head of state declared that he wanted to increase the exemption for medicines from 50 cents to 1 euro. What concrete changes can we expect? Who will be most impacted?
The deductible on medicines could double, going from 50 cents to 1 euro. Concrete consequence: patients would be reimbursed a little less well. A measure that surprises: “The amount is increasing, it’s disturbing. But since it’s only 50 cents, if you’re down to earth, it’s not much.”, assures a young man. On a box of medicine costing 10 euros, the deductible represents 50 cents, and the patient is reimbursed up to six euros. If the deductible increases to one euro, reimbursement will be made in the amount of 5.50 euros.
“If people don’t take care of themselves, what will happen?”
A doubling of the deductible which would allow Social Security to save 600 million euros. “It’s not a good economy“, judge Hervé Zibi, pharmacist in Issy-les-Moulineaux (Huats-de-Seine). “If people don’t take care of themselves, what will happen? (…) We are going to move more towards hospitals where care is free, so it will have a slightly greater impact“, he assures. The doubling of the franchise should especially penalize the middle class.
