Emmanuel Macron went to Belfort (Territoire-de-Belfort) on Thursday February 10 to unveil his nuclear revival program. He confirmed the construction of six new generation reactors by 2035.
The Head of State has not always defended the atom. But Thursday, February 10, traveling to Belfort (Territoire-de-Belfort), the president assumes his pro-nuclear position. “What we have to build today because it’s the right time, because it’s what our nation needs, because the conditions are clearly in place, is the rebirth of French nuclear power”did he declare.
Emmanuel Macron notably announced the construction of six new EPR2s for a construction site starting in 2028. They would be built on already existing sites. The president did not fail to tackle environmentalists about nuclear power. Yannick Jadot, presidential candidate, responds by saying that the president “tries to condemn our country to industrial and energy obsolescence around nuclear power”. Employees of the Belfort site remain cautious about his announcements because they believe that Emmanuel Macron is already campaigning.
