Emmanuel Macron, the rumor of a couple with Mathieu Gallet: who peddled this tenacious gossip?

Promoting his book Power games: the truth about a politico-media affair (Editions Bouquins), Mathieu Gallet is in the spotlight again, five years after the gossip that said he was in a relationship with the then presidential candidate, Emmanuel Macron. Today, it is of his own free will that the former boss of Radio France expresses himself and in C à vous, he returns to this “disgusting rumor” and hypothesizes about the people who would have peddled it.

In the middle of the presidential campaign in 2017, the husband of Brigitte Macron was the subject of false information according to which he would have an affair with Mathieu Gallet, at the head of Radio France since 2014, close to Frédéric Mitterrand and whose brilliant career – named in 2010 at the age of 33, CEO of the INA – makes people talk. If the future president denies the rumor with humor during one of his meetings, the idea of their couple remains tenacious.

The target was him. We remember that the Russian media, like Sputnik, relayed this information a lot on social networks“, declared Mathieu Gallet. He also remembers the message of the founder of En Marche: “What I blame [à Emmanuel Macron]is to have called me only the next day to say to me: ‘I spoke about us'”, while admitting that he was only an instrument of the attempt to destabilize the ex- Minister of the Economy of François Hollande. The relatives of Mathieu Gallet were also in this media whirlwind, like his aunt. During a meal with friends, she became aware of this rumor, it was then that she simply said:I know Mathieu Gallet, he is my nephew and I can tell you that Emmanuel Macron is not his boyfriend.

Who is causing this persistent noise? Mathieu Gallet explains that he conducted his investigation: “I let time pass. (…) Compared to what I experienced at Radio France, compared to my departure and the rumor is not foreign to it [il est en 2018 condamné pour favoritisme, en première instance, dans une affaire d’attribution de marchés lors de son mandat à l’INA]. (…) It’s true that I think it comes more from the political family when Emmanuel Macron left, the left, who saw that he was an ambitious man. Who wanted to ride for him, if you allow me. He scared. At the end of the 2010s, there were still people who thought that a disgusting rumor about alleged homosexuality could prevent a candidate from running for president. Fortunately French society is more intelligent, tolerant, than certain politicians.
