Emmanuel Macron spoke at length, in the afternoon of Monday, February 28, with Vladimir Poutine. Journalist Valéry Lerouge, in duplex from the Élysée, takes stock of their exchange.

A telephone exchange took place on Monday, February 28, between Vladimir Poutine and Emmanuel Macron. “Already, he has the merit of having existed and of maintaining a channel of discussion with the master of the Kremlin, since Emmanuel Macron is the only Western head of state to still speak to him”, reports journalist Valéry Lerouge, in duplex from the Élysée. The French president, during the 1h30 interview, “reiterated the demand of the international community for an immediate ceasefire”continues the journalist.

Failing to achieve this, Emmanuel Macron insisted on three points: “Stop strikes against civilians and civilian buildings first. Then preserve civilian infrastructure, hospitals [et] schools, finally, spare the roads that lead to Kiev (Ukraine) and through which humanitarian aid will pass”, explains Valéry Lerouge. The Elysée asserts that “Vladimir Putin has confirmed his willingness to commit to these three points”says the journalist.
