Emmanuel Macron addresses his mea-culpa to “gamers”, these video game enthusiasts. In a long message published on

“We have the feeling that some of them are living on the street with video games that have addicted them”

While a major event brought together nearly 30,000 e-sport enthusiasts on Friday at the Accor Arena in Paris, Emmanuel Macron decided to make a gesture towards gamers.

“Video games are a culture, an entertainment, a spectacle”

“I expressed my concerns“, explains the head of state on “because the video game codes had been used by offenders to trivialize violence on social networks”. “It is this violence that I condemn, not video games”, insists the president. Emmanuel Macron welcomes major events organized by players or 100% French creations, such as Assassin’s Creed or Dofus. “We are proud“, repeats Emmanuel Macron. Last year, the president had already promised “a new era” for video games, in front of nearly 200 players invited to L’Elysium.

Some gamers, like Kammeto, organizer of L’event of e-sport at the Accor Arena in Paris, felt “betrayed” after the controversial remarks of the head of state. Players regularly ask for more consideration and better professionalization of the sector, while at least 10 million French people practice e-sport. France has also applied to host the Olympic Games e-sport next year.
