At the heart of the pension reform, the unions demanded, via a letter, a meeting with Emmanuel Macron. On Friday March 10, the Head of State replied to them in a letter to defend “the progress of the reform”. The 8 p.m. takes stock with journalist Anne Bourse, live from the Élysée.
The Élysée does not open its doors to trade unions. “Officially to respect the parliamentary debate. Behind the scenes, an adviser explains that the debate should not crystallize around the head of state”, reports Anne Bourse. On two pages signed by his hand, Emmanuel Macron justified to the unions his reform which he considers “necessary” and adds that the government has always been “listening”.
The unions denounce the “contempt” of Emmanuel Macron
Emmanuel Macron also affirms that he does not underestimate the discontent and anxieties of many French people. “For the unions, the president does not take the measure of the movement and even speaks of contempt”, explains the journalist. The letter from the Head of State is also addressed to all defenders of the reform, including the right. “Emmanuel Macron said Friday afternoon that this text should be completed in Parliament and he does not exclude the use of 49.3”, adds Anne Bourse. The President of the Republic could address the French by the end of March.
