Emmanuel Macron said to himself “ready to debate now” with Marine Le Pen, in view of the European elections of June 9, in an interview with Parisian published Saturday May 25. The head of the National Rally (RN) responded to him on X a few minutes later, claiming to accept the invitation to debate whether the president “puts on the table his resignation or the dissolution of the National Assembly” in the event of Renaissance’s failure in the Europeans.
“If we think that this is an election where part of the destiny of France is at stake, which I believe, we must debate”, declared Emmanuel Macron, while the Renaissance list is struggling in the polls, largely behind the RN. The head of the far-right party list Jordan Bardella debated with Prime Minister Gabriel Attal on Thursday evening on France 2.
For Emmanuel Macron, who has never spoken publicly on the subject, the offer only runs until the vote. “After the election, this debate will no longer be of interest: I am President of the Republic”, he argues, interviewed on the plane returning from New Caledonia. The head of state also highlighted “the cowardly ambiguity of the RN” on the European question, deploring that the “debate” of ideas as the elections approach “in the cotton wool”.
