During a conference in support of Ukraine held in Paris on the evening of Monday February 26, Emmanuel Macron raised for the first time the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine, believing that “nothing must be excluded.
Emmanuel Macron has never uttered such a threatening sentence towards Russia. On the evening of Monday, February 26, the head of state raised for the first time the possibility of sending ground troops to Ukraine. “There is no consensus today to send, in an official, assumed and endorsed manner, ground troops. But dynamically, nothing must be excluded. We will do everything necessary to ensure that Russia can’t win this war”declared Emmanuel Macron, during a conference in support of Ukraine which took place in Paris.
An upcoming visit by Emmanuel Macron to Ukraine
At the end of this conference, this position was far from gaining consensus among other European leaders. On Tuesday morning, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said there was no question of sending soldiers to Ukraine. After two years of war, the conflict is bogged down and, according to Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, 31,000 Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives. On Tuesday morning, the Kremlin warned that sending troops to Ukraine would not be in Western interests. Emmanuel Macron must go to Ukraine by mid-March.
