Failing to be present in London for the platinum jubilee of Elizabeth II, Emmanuel Macron went, Thursday, June 2, under the Arc de Triomphe to greet the British sovereign. The President of the Republic was alongside Menna Rawlings, the ambassador of the United Kingdom in Paris.

The head of state has rekindled the flame of the unknown soldier. the british anthem, God Save the Queensounded, interpreted by the brass band of the Royal Regiment of Scotland, present in Paris. The Marseillaise was then played by the orchestra of the Republican Guard.

Earlier today, Emmanuel Macron also sent a video message to the queen. “You are the golden thread that binds our two countries, the proof of the unfailing friendship between our nations”estimated the French president. “You have been a constant presence and a source of wisdom for the leaders of our two countries”he continued.

“You are our friend, our close ally, our example of service to others. To celebrate you today is to celebrate the sincere and deep friendship that unites our two countries and your dedication to serve it”added Emmanuel Macron. “Your Majesty, I have the privilege of addressing to You, in the name of the French people, my most sincere congratulations on Your platinum jubilee”.
