It was in person that the President of the Republic came to present the anti-drug operation called “Place Net XXL” in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), Tuesday March 19.
To everyone’s surprise, Emmanuel Macron went to the La Castellane district, in Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), on Tuesday March 19, to present the “XXL square net” operation in person. This anti-drug system, inaugurated in the Marseille city, is intended to stop drug trafficking. “We are going to make the life of drug dealers impossible,” announced the President of the Republic to residents of the northern district of the city.
A mixed reception of the project
Since the start of the operation two days ago, the 900 members of the police, gendarmerie and customs forces deployed in Marseille have made 98 arrests, and seized 8.7 kilos of cannabis and four weapons. Despite the means displayed, some Marseillais remain doubtful. “I often say that we are emptying the ocean with a teaspoon. This morning, they brought us buckets to empty the ocean, but unfortunately there is still an ocean in front of us,” worries Rudy Manna, spokesperson for the Alliance Police Nationale union.
