While traveling in Germany, Tuesday, May 28, Head of State Emmanuel Macron gave the green light to Ukraine sending French missiles to “neutralize Russian military sites.”

A Russian strike in Kharkiv, in the heart of Ukraine’s second city, hit a supermarket. This event explains, in part, the change in France’s doctrine. Until now, France has sought to avoid an escalation with Russia. Paris therefore prohibited kyiv from using French weapons to strike on Russian territory. But the ban has now been lifted, particularly for French Scalp missiles. While traveling in Germany, Emmanuel Macron declared on Tuesday May 28: “We must allow them to neutralize the military sites from which the missiles are fired, and basically, the military sites from which Ukraine is attacked”.

Moscow’s attacks on Kharkiv now come mainly from Russian territory. This is a new development, hence the green light given by Paris to Ukraine. “Targeting strategic, military sites with high value, in real time, is something they couldn’t do until now and it will really change the situation on the front.”analyzes Xavier Tytelman, aeronautical and defense consultant at Air&Cosmos.
