Unlike 2017, this new investiture ceremony, with a very codified protocol, was placed under the sign of sobriety, as had been those of the previous re-elected presidents, François Mitterrand and Jacques Chirac. After the announcement of the results, he was presented with the large necklace of the Legion of Honor, placed on a red velvet cushion – of which he has already been grand master since 2017.

The guest floor also foreshadowed the “new method“which the re-elected president, often considered contemptuous and too solitary in the exercise of power, has promised to implement in the next five years, in “planning, reforming and associating“all the living forces of the country, from the social partners to the associations. As tradition dictates, 21 cannon shots were fired from the Invalides.
However, this investiture did not mark the start of the new five-year term: it will officially be necessary to wait for the end of the first, on the evening of Friday May 13 at midnight. The appointment of the new Prime Minister, the subject of all speculation for several days, will only take place after this date.
