Emmanuel Macron had “a special exchange” with the president of Real Madrid Florentino Perez, said on Saturday May 25 to Radio France, AFP and l’Equipe the Minister of Sports Amélie Oudéa-Castera, present in Bilbao, Spain, for the final of the Women’s Champions League between Olympique Lyonnais and FC Barcelona. This exchange between the two men took place Tuesday at the Elysée on the occasion of the 120th anniversary of Fifa, the International Football Federation. The case of Kylian Mbappé, strongly expected to join Real Madrid this summer, was discussed, and in particular the presence of the captain of the Blues at the next Olympic Games in Paris.
“I had an exchange with Mr. Perez on several subjects”, confides Amélie Oudéa-Castera. She assures that “the President of the Republic had a special moment with him”. The minister emphasizes that “Espoirs coach Thierry Henry is also very involved, he is the one who will lead this team composition.” “It is important that we fight so that the Olympic and Paralympic Games are a great popular success, she adds. And Kylian, with everything he represents, it’s normal [qu’on soutienne sa participation aux JO]we must not hide.”
“Kylian has also spoken out since,” specifies Amélie Oudéa-Castera. “I think that now we need to let them mature a little.” insists the minister. “Each actor must be in his place. I try to be in my place. There is this formula that I really like from the President of the Republic : ‘the optimism of the will'”.
Kylian Mbappé, selected to play the Euro in Germany from June 14 to July 14, also wishes to participate in the Olympic tournament which takes place from July 24 to August 10. But the competition is not on the FIFA dates, it is the French striker’s future club which will have the last word on his participation or not.
