Several European countries, including France, were criticized by the World Health Organization on Tuesday for raising too many “brutally” their anti-Covid-19 measures. While the number of contaminations is rising under the effect of the BA.2 sub-variant, should we be prepared to have to wear the mask again inside? Asked about this on Wednesday March 23 on M6, Emmanuel Macron did not rule it out. “I will be very transparent: if things were to deteriorate, and even during the election, the president that I am will do what is necessary to protect in a proportionate way”replied the outgoing president.

Candidate for a new mandate, he defended himself from having taken advantage of the electoral campaign to relax health restrictions. “You know, I heard everything, including that I had tightened the restrictions for election reasons!” he replied. “I had a compass: to protect our compatriots, and to do it in a proportionate way. (…) We kept the mask in transport, because we are more packed there. We kept it, with the pass, in hospitals and for the elderly”he listed.

The average number of positive cases for Covid-19 over a week rose again above the 100,000 mark on Wednesday, while hospitalizations are only falling very slightly, according to figures published by the health authorities. The average contamination over seven days, which smooths out the daily jolts, amounts to 104,176 cases against 98,928 on Tuesday and 74,912 last Wednesday.
