“It is moral and political cynicism that is unbearable to me.” Emmanuel Macron strongly criticized, on Monday March 7, the proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to set up humanitarian corridors to lead Ukrainian refugees to Russia and Belarus. What is necessary, “it’s not just corridors, which are immediately threatened, it’s not this hypocritical discourse which consists in saying : ‘We are going to protect people to bring them to Russia‘”declared the President of the Republic in an interview with LCI. “All this is not serious”he added.

Shortly before, the Élysée had made it known in a press release that the humanitarian corridors announced by Russia did not constitute a request from Emmanuel Macron, as the Russian armed forces claimed. “The personal demand of the President of the Republic, like that of the rest of the allies and partners, is that the Russian offensive cease”said the Elysee.

The Russian army affirmed, for its part, that the decision to open several humanitarian corridors, to evacuate civilians in particular from Kiev, Kharkiv and Mariupol, was taken after a “personal request” du French president addressed to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin, during a two-hour interview by telephone on Sunday.
