In the main courtyard of Les Invalides, Emmanuel Macron paid a national tribute, Wednesday February 7, to the French people killed during the terrorist attacks carried out on October 7 by Hamas in Israel. “We are 68 million mourners”, declared the French president in the Cour des Invalides. The head of state denounced “the greatest anti-Semitic massacre of our century”.
“They were not all born under the skies of France, they did not all die under the skies of France, but they were from France”, declared Emmanuel Macron about the 42 French or Franco-Israelis killed by this “barbarity”.

This unprecedented ceremony outside Israel comes four months to the day after the attacks perpetrated by Hamas, in which at least 1,160 people were killed. The French tribute was broadcast on a giant screen on the “hostage square”, opposite the Ministry of Defense in Tel Aviv.
