During his interview on France 2 and franceinfo on Tuesday evening, the head of state defended the participation of the Israeli delegation in the Paris Olympic Games.

Israeli athletes “must be able to compete under their colours” and they are “welcome” in Paris for the 2024 Olympic Games, Emmanuel Macron said Tuesday evening during his interview on France 2 and franceinfo. “I always said: it’s the IOC [Comité international olympique] who will decide. And we don’t do politics with the Games”added the head of state.

The President of the Republic condemned “with the greatest firmness all those who, in any way, put these athletes at risk and implicitly threaten them”responding to statements by several elected officials of La France Insoumise. Deputies denounced the “Two weights, two measures” between Israelis and Russian athletes, a small number of whom will participate in the Games under a neutral banner.

The rebellious elected official Thomas Portes notably estimated on Saturday that “Israeli athletes are not welcome” at the Games and that France had to do “pressure on the IOC so that the Israeli flag and anthem are not allowed during these Olympic Games as is done for Russia.”

Emmanuel Macron also recalled that he was “very attached to the two-state solution [israélien et palestinien] and that there is a ceasefire.” “Because what is happening in Gaza today is unacceptable.”
