Emmanuel Macron formalizes his candidacy for the presidential election in the regional press, Thursday, February 3, like Jacques Chirac in 1995. A declaration postponed as late as possible, due to the health context and then the war in Ukraine. The text has just been published on several sites of regional daily newspapers.
He had less than 24 hours to put an end to the true-false suspense. While the war is raging in eastern Europe, Emmanuel Macron addresses, on the evening of Thursday, February 3, through the regional press, a letter to the French to formalize his candidacy. “I am a candidate to invent with you, in the face of the challenges of the century, a singular French and European response“, writes the President of the Republic.
The method chosen by the Head of State to present himself again is inspired by that of his predecessors. In 1988, François Mitterrand already published a letter to all French people to explain his candidacy, 15 days after having made it official. And in 1995, Jacques Chirac had also chosen the regional press to embark on the race for the Elysée. In his letter, Emmanuel Macron also justifies his campaign, despite the war in Ukraine.
