Emmanuel Macron congratulates Benjamin Netanyahu on his victory and wants to “strengthen ties” between the two countries

“I just called Binyamin Netanyahu to congratulate him on his victory in the elections.” Emmanuel Macron greeted, Sunday, November 6, the former Israeli Prime Minister, who won the majority of the seats with his right-wing allies after the legislative elections which were heldit’s tuesday. “We share the same desire to strengthen the already strong ties between Israel and France”wrote the French president on Twitter.

With 32 seats for Netanyahu’s Likud, 18 for ultra-Orthodox parties and 14 for a far-right alliance, the right-wing bloc won 64 seats. Opposite, the bloc of outgoing Prime Minister Yair Lapid, centrist, won 51 seats, according to results announced Thursday by the Israeli Election Commission.

Benjamin Netanyahu has launched negotiations with his allies to form what could be the most right-wing government in Israel’s history, sparking international and local concerns.
