Emmanuel Macron said, Wednesday November 15, “condemn with the greatest force” the defacement of ten Jewish steles in a German military cemetery from the First World War in Oise, in a context of increasing anti-Semitic acts.
During a press conference in Switzerland, the head of state recalled his “personal engagement” has “to fight implacably and tirelessly against all forms of anti-Semitism”.
More than 1,500 acts since October 7
Ten Jewish steles were discovered defaced in the German military cemetery from the First World War in Moulin-sous-Touvent, the department’s prefecture announced on Wednesday. The prosecution opened an investigation for violation of graves or monuments initiated in memory of deaths committed because of race, ethnicity, nation, religion. The prefect of Oise, Catherine Séguin, sent a “message of support and peace to descendants” soldiers whose tomb “has just been desecrated.”
More than 1,500 anti-Semitic acts or remarks have been recorded in France since the start of the war triggered by the Hamas massacres in Israel on October 7, according to the latest figures communicated by the Minister of the Interior.
